Street Style Inspiration

I posted last week about street style from New York Fashion Week and I especially loved the camel with the neon pink.  So this morning as I was getting dressed I decided to try my hand at this combo.

J Crew cashmere turtleneck, Calypso cardigan, Talbots skirt, Stuart Weitzman boots, Miu Miu bag

I wore a J Crew cashmere turtleneck, Talbots skirt and cardigan bought on sale last summer at Calypso.  The cardigan isn't merely hot pink but rather the perfect neon pink and it's really a summer weight sweater but worn over a cashmere turtleneck, I thought it was just fine.  One thing I struggle with when wearing these colors in the winter is shoes.  But from the Bazaar street style pic, I realized I could wear black boots and I thought they worked fine with this.  What do you think?

Color Block Pop

I had posted recently on some of my spring shopping jaunts to Zara and H&M here.  Yesterday I wore some of my new fun spring purchases despite the fact that we got another dusting of snow.

Zara top, H&M skirt, Hermes belt, Theory cardigan, Kate Spade booties

I brightened up my Friday with a pleated color blocked skirt from H&M.  The color blocking is somewhat subtle with pink on one side and more of a tomato on the other.  And it was total luck that the shirt I bought from Zara goes so well with the skirt.  Of course, since it's still winter, I added a black Theory cardigan, tights and Kate Spade booties.

Lusting After Moschino Fall 2011

The fall 2011 collection for Moschino was heavy on the military inspired but my favorite pieces were those that were utterly ladylike and feminine.

I love the bright red satin and the ruffle detail at the shoulder

This dress is so lady like with its bow at the waist and peplum skirt

The contrast piping on this dress and jacket make it interesting and I adore the detailing at the collar

Love the red rose print and the dramatic collar

This would be a great every day dress. Love the tie at the waist and the many strands of necklaces

This dress is so chic with its peplum and flared skirt
I would wear this jacket with jeans, with skirts, with everything

It's a Good Day When...

DVF dress, Danskin leggings, Kate Spade shoes, Chanel necklace, Kenneth Jay Lane cuff

Do you ever have one of those days where you know based on something that happens early on what kind of day it will be?  Some days I trip over my own feet or slip on a patch of ice in the wee hours of the morn and it signals me that the day isn't going to go well.  But today started on a positive note.  My own personal peanut  gallery who greets me most days on my way to work was lurking in his usual spot this morning when I heard "Good morning Hollywood, you're shining today baby".  Then as I waited for my morning toast to be ready, a woman smiled at me and told me how much she loved my boots.  The boots are a long ago Kate Spade score from Marshalls.  The dress is DVF that I got on sale years ago  And the leggings are the best leggings to be had which are Danskin.  The day started well and ended well.  And now I'm that much closer to Friday and the weekend!

Fave NYFW Street Style

I almost like seeing the street styles more than the runway looks...almost.  I loved all the bright reds everywhere.

I like this monochromatic look and especially love the shape of the jacket.

As you know from here, I love leopard and red together.

This fuschia suit downplayed a bit with the chambray shirt is a lovely combo.

I DIE over the neon pink and camel mixed together.

This camel coat with the contrast detailing is oh so chic.

And I've never met an animal print coat that I didn't like.

Neon Orange Lips, Bright Blue Nails

Ann Taylor top and cardigan, Joe's jeans, Hermes belt, J Crew shoes

Every day more snow melts and the world seems more bearable.  It's utterly delightful to be able to wear regular shoes.  I love my boots but I am just sick to death of them.  Today I threw on a summery top and lightweight cardigan from Ann Taylor with Joe's bootcut jeans.  I had a major pop of color with M.A.C. neon orange lipstick.

J Crew shoes

But the favorite part of my outfit was a regular (and by regular I mean not winter weather worthy) pair of shoes from J Crew.

Chanel ring, Aris Geldis necklace

I wore another Aris Geldis necklace,  Chanel ring and Essie's Coat Azure on my nails.

Blah Blah Beige

DVF top, Joe's jeans, Aris Geldis necklace, bracelet from Elisha Daniels
Last week's spring weather was a bit of a tease.  Not that I'm complaining.  I was thankful to have two beautifully warm days but it just made the past few days feel like they came out of nowhere.  Which leads me to today's outfit which is a bit more winter than I would like but oh well.

I wore the ever faithful DVF top that I really do love with some new Joe's jeans.  My jeans that are skinny enough to easily fit into boots have worn out so to replace them I got these Joe's visionaire skinny jeans.  They call them high waist but to me, they are what a regular rise was before everything got super low.  They are especially stretchy and the fit is big.  I got a size or two smaller than I usually would.  I'm tired of blah colors so my one ode to spring was a mini pop of color with M.A.C. lipstick in impassioned.

Party at David Yurman to Benefit the BCRF

Each year in Boston, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation organizes a fabulous Hot Pink Party to raise money to fund breast cancer research.  Many local doctors are funded through the BCRF and over 90 cents of each dollar they raise goes to fund research.  The kickoff party for this year's Hot Pink Party is being held at David Yurman in Copley Place on March 16 from 6-8PM.  10% of the proceeds that evening will be donated to the BCRF so please come and spend your little hearts out!

Happiness is....

Happiness is fresh flowers to brighten up the day.

Tempura escargot

Happiness is over the top delicious sushi from Oishii

Happiness is great friends celebrating together with five bottles of wine.

And happiness is the resilience to survive the five bottle of wine night.  Happy Sunday!

Red+Leopard+Studs=Happiness

Life played a cruel joke on me yesterday when I woke up thinking it was Friday, only to realize that it was still Thursday.  But today was a happy day.  It was Friday, before a long weekend and we were blessed with another spring-like day.

Talbots top, Zara pants, Valentino shoes

A day like today was cause to celebrate and how better for a clothes horse and fashion lover to celebrate than in what one wears?!  So today I wore some new bright red trousers from Zara with a leopard blouse from Talbots and finished with my new fave Valentino studded t strap shoes.

I topped it all off with even more animal print in the form of a coat and still am carrying all that's necessary in my daily life in the Miu Miu bag that I cannot bring myself to put down.

Currently Coveting

I'm coveting these yellow hi rise flare jeans by Tory Burch but they are sold out everywhere I look!

Pink Pop!

It hit 60 degrees here today and it was just glorious!

Tara Jarmon dress, Spanx tights, Me Too booties, Chanel necklace, Kenneth Jay Lane cuff

I wore this basic black Tara Jarmon dress with Spanx lace tights and some booties.

RED Valentino coat

And I brightened up my day with this hot pink coat by Valentino RED.  Tomorrow is going to be even warmer so I'm really going to pull out some warmer weather clothes.  Happy early spring...maybe the groundhog was right?!

Fall 2011 Faves

One of fashion's oddities is that just when you are ready for spring and summer clothes, you start looking at fall clothes.  I've lamented over and over again about how excited I am to whip out my spring and summer wardrobe yet here I am about to tell you about some of my fall faves.  Isn't that just the way it goes?!

I had posted previously about how ba-na-nas I am for Rachel Zoe's clothing line and here is some more of what I'm looking forward to.

I love the bright gold zipper on these jeans and paired with the faux fur vest and platform shoes makes it oh so wearable and fun

I would wear this leather trimmed belted camel cape over and over and over again

This glam top would be a weekend staple for evenings out on the town

Diane von Furstenberg never fails to come up with things I really want in my wardrobe.

I love the combo of patterns and I'm a sucker for anything metallic

I LOVE this coat for its color blocking
Preen paired a bit of tailoring with brights and florals yet funked it up with the neon booties.

Spring is in the Air

Ann Taylor cashmere turtleneck, Kate Spade skirt, Stuart Weitzman boots, Miu Miu bag

OK so spring isn't in the air quite yet (it's well below freezing here today) but I'm wearing a bright pink spring skirt from Kate Spade.  You can really appreciate the brightness here.

Yes, I paired it with a black cashmere turtleneck, black tights and black boots, but wearing the bright pink perked me up.  Now I think we all have something to look forward to.  For the next few days, it's going to be in the 40s and 50s so I'm hoping to have a clothing epiphany!

Thoughts on This Shoe

I saw this shoe online at Saks.  It's a striped cotton lace up by Prada and I'm drawn to it.  But it's new now for spring/summer yet it looks like winter to me since it's so dark.  Do you think it would work for spring or summer?

Keeping it Simple

Even though I've never been a fan of Valentine's Day, I still was leaning towards being bathed in red or pink today.  It's most likely because being in brights makes me feel like spring, but I just couldn't bring myself to do the cliche' red or pink thing.

Banana Republic top, Talbots cardigan, Zara skirt, Miu Miu bag, Christian Louboutin pumps
I kept it basic with black and tan and a little bit of animal print thrown in.  I wore a Banana Republic blouse, animal print cardi from Talbots, camel Zara skirt and for the first time in ages shoes other than boots or booties; in this case Christian Louboutin new simple pumps.

I went out tonight with Elisha and her hubby.  Isn't it great to have friends whose husbands don't mind a Valentine's day tag-along?  I hope you all had a great day!

Washing Away the Blues

I am finally beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel of winter.  This glimmer of light pushed me to wear a pair of non-sensible shoes out Friday night.

Mulberry postman's lock booties

I bought these electric blue Mulberry booties in the fall and while I don't think they look all that high, they certainly feel it when I'm prancing about town.  But I was hopeful enough and I wore them out even if it meant risking the snow and ice patches that still remain.

Zara top, Banana Republic pants, Miu Miu bag, Chanel necklace, Kenneth Jay Lane cuff
To add to the optimism, I wore one of my new spring tops from Zara with Banana Republic five pocket leggings and my new Miu Miu bag which I haven't put down.

On another note, I had a bittersweet weekend in NYC celebrating my darling niece's first birthday and wishing her, my brother and sister in law adieu since they are moving to London this Thursday.  We bought this fabulous giant (and I mean giant) red velvet cupcake from Crumb.   I'm hoping the two normal size (but still relatively large) cupcakes put it into perspective.

We got five slices out of it...

...and still had half a cupcake left.

And check out the pretty pink filling in the "Hostess" cupcake.

More Lunchtime Shopping Adventures

Today's lunchtime jaunt was to H&M to secure more spring wardrobe staples.

H&M color blocked skirt $34.95

First I spotted this color blocked skirt that I thought was so pretty.  It wasn't until I got it home that I realized how lovely it will look with one of yesterday's Zara purchases.

Zara top, H&M skirt
And I'm especially excited to pair this outfit with my new Valentino shoes that I've been coveting (seen here and here).  They arrived in the mail yesterday after I had Dean the shoe guy from Neiman's track them down for me.

Valentino studded t-strap shoes
I think these shoes will be spring staples for me.  The heels are pretty low and the nude goes with EVERYTHING!

Stella McCartney swing coat $1345 (available online at net-a-porter)

On a recent Saks run, I happened upon this uber-fabulous Stella McCartney cape trench.  But for the price, I could not do it.  So imagine my sheer delight today when I saw this at H&M.

H&M cape trench $69.95
This is just what I had been looking for and for a wee fraction of the price of the Stella McCartney number. My sister has a rule at H&M.  She doesn't do well navigating her way there so I'm instructed to buy her one of everything I buy for myself.  So ever the dutiful one, I bought two.  We're both going to get tons of wear out of this.
